The new European Batteries Regulation, originally proposed by the European Commission in 2020, aims to regulate the full life cycle of all types of batteries sold in the EU, including design, production and recycling. Under the legislation, future electric vehicle batteries and rechargeable industrial batteries will be required to have a carbon footprint declaration and labeling, as well as a digital battery passport in order to enter the EU market.
