EN15194 certification is the first international comprehensive certification for EPAC: Electrically power-assisted cycles and the electronics applications integrated into the bicycles, such as intelligent lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, remotes, displays, etc.
Features of EPACs Covered by the Standard:
- Pedal Function: Must have a pedal function.
- Battery Voltage: The high DC voltage of the battery must not exceed 48V DC.
- Motor Power: The maximum continuous rated power must not exceed 0.25 kW (250 watts).
- Speed Limitation: The output of the electrically power-assisted cycle must gradually decrease and eventually cut off when a speed of 25 km/h is reached.
The products that passed the test of EN 15194 can prove that the products meet the international first-class level and have a positive effect on the development of the energy-saving market.
The new standard for electric-assisted bicycles is far more complicated than the standard for EPAC previously. The new standard covers mechanical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and electrical safety;
> Mechanical safety standards: Test the lithium-ion battery packs according to the requirements of bicycle standards (EN15194:2017);
> The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standard is implemented in accordance with EU Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive): the purpose is to ensure that people who use hearing aids or pacemakers are driving motorcycles, cars, or electric assist bicycles safely. Starting from April 2019, all electric-assisted bicycles, including rechargeable lithium-ion batteries sold in the EU market must pass the EMC test of the new standard EN15194;
> Electrical safety standards are implemented in accordance with ISO13849-1:2015: related to requirements for circuits, batteries, wires, power control, etc.
How We Ensure the Battery Use in the Device can Pass the EN15194?
To ensure the battery use in the device can pass the EN15194, we should make sure our battery passes the below test in advance:
- IEC62133:2017
- EN60335-1:2016
- HD60364
- EN60529 (IP67)
- EN60068 2-75 HAMMER
- EN22248 FALL
- ISO13849
